View Royal

View Royal was incorporated in 1988. Since then, the community has experienced significant growth and development, while still maintaining its character. Today, the town it is a thriving community of approximately 9,500 residents. About a 15 minute drive from Victoria’s core, it is a gateway between Victoria and the West Shore municipalities.

View Royal has an extensive network of parks and waterways offering a wide range of recreation options. It is home to Thetis Lake Regional Park, a beautiful forested area enjoyed for swimming, fishing and hiking and borders the Gorge Waterway. The community has a rich heritage, including Craigflower Manor and the Four Mile pub and restaurant, both located on the Old Island Highway. The area is also home to one of the region’s two major hospitals, Victoria General.

As its name suggests, this community has spectacular vistas and landscapes, providing unique and innovative approaches to growth. The municipality protects its green spaces and waterways and supports a walkable and connected environment, offering residents easy access to services and amenities. View Royal strives to be liveable, green, and sustainable. The area has a historic business/shopping area in the older part of the community and a brand new shopping complex near the hospital.

Housing in this area is unique and unlike any other part of Victoria.  Multi-million dollar homes line the shoreline of the Gorge Waterway and at Christie Point, a condominium complex stretching along a narrow peninsula that reaches into the Gorge, is soon planned to be underway. The properties along the winding narrow roads throughout many of its neighbourhoods each have a special, individual character, whether restored character homes or new builds. Properties are generally a good size and most houses are large, compared to some Victoria neighbourhoods. Newer subdivisions can be found near Victoria General Hospital and Thetis Lake, as well as along View Royal’s western border near Colwood and along Highway #1.
